Oh Youtube. If there is an internet using soul on earth who doesn't know about youtube, they're a sad sad soul. I mean youtube, like myspace, is e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e!
So I've used Youtube in the past numerous times. Last year, a friend of mine was on the reality show Rockstar: Supernova. He got eliminated but his real elimination was cut off of tv and of course, since I knew him, I found out the real reasons and funny enough using YouTube, you could find the truth on video! I also watch Google and Yahoo videos often.
I've heard that some people think Youtube is taking away from TV shows or something but whatever. I think Youtube, unlike myspace, is fan-freaking-tastic!
I was very disappointed to see that I couldn't find an Old Navy commercial that I loved. It's pretty much the ONLY old navy commercial that I loved. It's where there's a kid who is all excited to mow the lawn because "It's like a haircut for the lawn!"...cracked me up. Can't find it! How sad.
However, finding just ONE video to embed was nearly impossible. So many things to show off the greatness of. What do I choose?

8.19 // The one with the Forensic proof
Veddy Veddy Interestink.
I went to the Web 2.0 Awards short list. I looked for "Fun Stuff" because that I like to go with first gut instinct. I found http://www.onesentence.org/ and I've gotta say... this is actually pretty cool. It was rated number 2. The description was "Tell a true story in one sentence and read the one-sentence-stories of others’."
I was interested and visited. There's something about it. It's like Post Secret which you hate to read all of these dirty little secrets on postcards except, you can't help it, you're drawn in! I couldn't stop reading them! It's now favorited into my daily reads!
Frankly I also found it a lot more interesting than the #1, which was the www.cocktailbuilder.com. I can make my own alcoholic beverage concotions without the web!
I then peeled my eyes away from the one sentence's and perused the rest of the "short list". I think award sites are always a good idea because it's always interesting to see what you can find that you didn't know existed before on the web. New discoveries are good.
I don't know if I perused it well enough to find anything that would be good for library use, but who knows...maybe I'll come back for more!

*Edit- Below is a document I created about using Google Docs. I chose google doc's because I already had a google account. It's... an interesting concept but like a lot of the things on this 23 things experience, I don't understand why you'd do Google Docs when you could just type it in word and attach it? or type it in a post on your blog in the first place. I don't know. I just... didn't get it?

My mother's birthday was today.
Recently my parents have been focusing on their new "beach themed" furniture of redecorating of their living room so my intended birthday gift was a craft I'd make. I found this interesting crafts on Michael's website. Unfortunately, I could not find any of the items I needed in the store! so last minute, what do I do instead!?
I had a nice sized canvas and some paint so I decided to paint a photo.
Blue and Green went with their beach theme and my mom likes daisies so voila!
A masterpiece.
I'm not the best artist in the world. I can rock some crafts, but not usually paintings.
However, I was pretty darn proud of this masterpiece!

7.17 // The one with the sleepy eyes
So for once I can say that the wiki sandbox is kind of cool. I added a page (http://marylandlibrariessandbox.pbwiki.com/Aesthetically+Pleasing) and added my blog to favorites (http://marylandlibrariessandbox.pbwiki.com/Favorite%20Blogs). Though I doubt it would be anyone's fav.
However, I'm not sure if I see this being any different than possibly a blog and/or a forum. I mean, it's different, but it's not soooo different.
It's an interesting concept though and I kind of enjoyed adding some of my favorites. An actor I love, a movie I love and a TV show that I love.
I did find that it was nice to see that someone else besides myself looks at stuffonmycat frequently!!!

Frankly I use it a lot. There's so much good in it because it's got information on virtually everything! The only problem is that it is user-submitted, meaning anyone could insert any information and it does not necessarily have to be true. You could look it up and find information on elephants. Like that elephants come in only 2 colors, pink and red. Untrue, but it's possible that people could submit this info on the internet.
I believe some tv show, the daily show, or something similar was doing an experiment once having their watchers put improper info in the wiki about elephants.
So this discussion I got into with this, person, was about just that. This person is a news person. All reporters are right. All things you read in the newspaper are right. All things you hear on a reliable news channel is right. I pointed out, that how do they know they're right? They double-check their sources right? Well that's how the wikipedia works. You read the information and there are usually source links...you double check the sources. This person said, true...but how do you know anything you read on the internet is right? I said...How do you know everything you read in the newspaper is right? I mean, News Reporters have been wrong. In that sense... how do you know anything is right?
Point being, Wiki's are a great great source of information. But you should still always double-check the facts.

Can I be honest?
Reading the 5 perspectives of Library 2.0 kind of put me to sleep.
The concept of changing and adapting to the world around us is a great concept. Not only is it something people/business'/things should do, it's something we kind of have to do. Libraries are not the place that people go just to study or research or learn. Kids go to have fun playing games on the computer or hearing stories. Teens go to hang out with friends and work on myspace. Adults go to maybe get a few moments away from their children and make new friends.
Creating a library that has adapted to the people who use it today is a great idea and from what I grasped from these perspectives is that this is what the library is doing... or am I just grasping at straws?
I guess I'm lucky that, not only am I young, but I understand and can easily adapt to technology. Unlike some people who can't figure out how to use the VCR. So I know how to use myspace and I don't need a class to figure out how to start blogging. I had a point here, but now I forget what it was.
I'm done here.

I've used Technorati before in the past.

6.13 // The one with the delicious taste
Yet, another thing I know about, Del.icio.us, that I personally do not use.
I actually was going to mention Del.icio.us in my post about RSS Feeds, but I looked ahead and saw we'd be exploring it later so I decided to just mention it now.
I've had a livejournal for about 6 or 7 years. So I know all about blogs and tags and this and that and many other things. Because my livejournal is so old and they did not have the capabilities to do things like tagging yet, I have not utilized the tags on my livejournal...even now while I can.
Tags, I do believe are great features. Because, like with my livejournal, sometimes I like to go back and remember something I wrote about specifically. A concert I went to, a person I talked about, one of my billion car accidents...whatever. If I had tags, this would be a much easier task than it is currently while NOT having tags.
Unlike Rollyo and RSS feeds, I actually see a better use for this. One that I may actually be more inclined to use myself. Except that if I want to save something, I create a bookmark.
The thing that would draw me into Del.icio.us a little more, would be if it was more aesthetically pleasing. Is that stupid? Aesthetics are pretty important to me. Maybe that's why I wasn't a fan of Bloglines or how RSS feeds look when not in their own web page. Rollyo, I admit, is a little more aesthetically pleasing. But Del.icio.us really has no aesthetics that draw me to use it...therefor I'll continue with my IE bookmarks.

So this one is all about the Rollyo, which reminds me of bubble tape for some reason. "6 feet of bubblegum for you, not them!"
I did a search for Transformers, because I'm going to see that at the $3 theaters today. So I created a rollyo to add to my blog where you can search my site for movies I may speak of and/or movies in general and the web...because I like movies.
My internet is being horrendously slow today and has been since last night. This is proving to be very frustrating while trying to bang out my 23 things.
At first, I was going to compare Rollyo to RSS feeds. Where I see the potential good use in general for them but I just don't see them being useful to myself. Actually, I'm going to stick with that. Hey I mean, It's cool to create your own sort of search engine of sorts, especially for your own site. Especially if you're a regular blogger and this could be used for people to search your own blogger. However, I just don't see it being useful or used by me anytime in the near future... which is not to say I won't use it.

5.11 // The one with the ghost
Library Thing would be a good thing for my mother who has more books than she even realizes and peruses saturday morning yard sales for more books! I, on the other hand, have two book shelves with books and a box or two in my closet of all the books from when I was a kid, like The Piggy in the Puddle, which was one of my favorites!
So... I created one and added the first couple books I knew I had off the top of my head.
To be honest, I didn't spend a lot of time with it, finding the exact books with the exact photos...namely the Harry Potter ones. Some don't even have photos. I didn't look into that. Should I have?

I still don't like RSS Feeds. I did check out Merlin and I even tried to subscribe to the feed, but unfortunately it didn't seem to work.
Maybe one day I'll give in because I'll have sooo many sites to look at and maybe sooo little time to view them any other way than feeds, but for right now...the sites I like to look at I can do without feeds.

I admit, I go to a lot of webpages daily. One of my most frequented is StuffonmyCat. I, personally am not a fan of RSS feeds. I don't know why but there's just something about having it all in one spot that makes it cluttered for me. I always save the sites in my favorites and go to them whenever I want to see them. I'm sure it makes more sense to use RSS feeds and to have them all conveniently there for you to see, but as I've said before, I don't always make sense.
So for the sheer purpose of this activity I created a blogline account and added some RSS feeds.

Ok. So technology related for reals. Well, really I like the technology we have these days to watch movies. Everything from the brilliant minds who created the idea, the amazing equipment used to make it and finally the great means that we have to watch them.
I mean... I could go on about how I'm really interested in seeing Hatchet. How at first I was all blech about it because it seemed so cliche... but then I realized that Robert Englund starred in it and frankly, he makes any movie good.
Or... how I'm going to see Transformers tomorrow at the $3 theater. How I have this thing for Shia LeBeouf and, like Robert Englund, makes all movies better. But I guess people aren't technology...they just make it while I like to watch it!

I'd like to say I use mnemonic devices for my lifelong learning, but apparently that isn't one of the habits. Maybe it's the other half of that 1/2 left over.
The other comment I have to make before actually participating in this thing 2 that followed thing 1 that wasn't brought in by the cat in the hat... is that whoever recorded that podcast did not do so properly for there was a lot of plosion. You know that sound the microphone makes when you're too close and you say a T or a P word most commonly. Yeah, it's annoying thanks. Back away from the Microphone! Back away...from the Microphone!

Easiest Habit - Habit 6. I'm pretty technologically smart. So I guess I'd say that Technology would win the Gold. I am pretty confident so I'd say that would be the second runner up receiving the Silver Medal. Bronze goes to accepting responsibility for my learning habits.

I'm not so good at looking into the future. You never really know where you'll end up or what will change along the way. So the example they use...maybe you want to learn spanish to just be able to understand the basics, but maybe as you're learning you fall in love with a bull-fighting spaniard who is visiting from Spain and you decide to move to Spain to be with them for the rest of your life. Obviously your original goal is now shot and you want to now create a new goal, to live happily ever after with your new bull-fighting spaniard boyfriend...sort of like Madonna in the "Take a Bow" video.

Easiest Habit - Habit 6. I'm pretty technologically smart. So I guess I'd say that Technology would win the Gold. I am pretty confident so I'd say that would be the second runner up receiving the Silver Medal. Bronze goes to accepting responsibility for my learning habits.
Honorable mention, for participating in the seven and a half Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners but for coming up as the hardest for me, goes to... Keeping the End in Mind! Yay! Cheers from the crowd!
I'm not so good at looking into the future. You never really know where you'll end up or what will change along the way. So the example they use...maybe you want to learn spanish to just be able to understand the basics, but maybe as you're learning you fall in love with a bull-fighting spaniard who is visiting from Spain and you decide to move to Spain to be with them for the rest of your life. Obviously your original goal is now shot and you want to now create a new goal, to live happily ever after with your new bull-fighting spaniard boyfriend...sort of like Madonna in the "Take a Bow" video.
